"On the night of the 19th. instant, on the occasion of a typhoon, P.5.. Counsell was patrolling the foreshore North of Taumati Station for the purpose of rendering all to boat people in langer. When at Mongkok he saw two boats in listress. He sent the Chinese Constable who was with him to fetch more help, while he himself, seizing a rope attached to a lerriok near by to stealy himself, male his way over a log which was tossing amongst the wreck- age, and succeelel in bringing 4 of the occupants safely to shore. There still remained a boy of 15 on one of the boats, and in attempting to reach hir P... Counsell slippel, lost his holl of the rope, and fell into the water, which was exceelingly rough. In spite of this he managed to reach the boy and bring him, after a hard struggle, safe to lani. He returned to Station at 11.45. P... and went out again on duty at 12.30 A.X.. and renainel out till 3.00 A.X. On his return to Station at that hour he was seized with severe cramp in the stomach, resulting from the strain and exposure, and became unconscious through the pain. He was sent to Hospital next day and has, I am glad to say, recovered from the attack and resumed laty."
